1.Background and Objectives: Chronic knee joint pain is a common complaint encountered at our medical institute's outpatient clinic. Previous studies have highlighted the benefits of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) for managing chronic pain in various joints, including the shoulder, elbow, hand, fingers, and lower back. This study focuses on evaluating the effects of LLLT on chronic knee joint pain.

2.Materials and Methods: Over a five-year period, 35 patients with chronic knee joint pain caused by osteoarthritis-induced degenerative meniscal tears were treated at the outpatient clinic. LLLT was administered using a 1000 mW semiconductor laser device, delivering 20.1 J/cm² per point at an 808 nm wavelength in continuous wave mode. Each session targeted four points, with treatments conducted twice weekly over four weeks.

3.Results: Pain levels were assessed using a visual analogue scale (VAS), which showed significant improvement after the treatment regimen (p < 0.001). However, there were no notable changes in knee joint range of motion. Patient discussions emphasized the importance of adopting postures and activities that minimize knee pain to sustain the benefits of the therapy.

4.Conclusion: This study confirms that 808 nm LLLT is an effective treatment for chronic knee pain associated with knee osteoarthritis. Patients were encouraged to perform gentle knee flexion and extension exercises to complement the therapy and maintain long-term benefits.
