In order to protect the retinal tissue, protective eyewear with lenses adapted to the specific wavelengths of the treatment laser is important for both humans and patients. Laser energy should not be applied to a pregnant uterus, tumors, open fontanels, growth plates or thyroid glands in immature animals. Use caution if your pet has tattoos, dark fur, or dark skin as there may be light absorption and tissue heating.

 

What does research show?

Most basic research on therapeutic lasers has been performed in cell cultures and humans; however, extrapolation to veterinary medicine is reasonable.

 

Since laser stimulates fibroblast activity, it may affect collagen production, thereby promoting the healing of wounds and burns. Bone and cartilage appear to respond well to therapeutic laser.
