How does COZING-C320 transcranial low level light therapy work?
1.Photobiomodulation utilizes the photon energy of light to regulate physiological functions in humans or animals. Near-infrared (NIR) laser 810nm can effectively penetrate organs including the brain. Due to the complexity of the brain structure and the diversity of disease conditions, NIR lasers of different wavelengths, energy densities (expressed in J / cm 2 ) and irradiances (expressed in mW / cm 2 ) have been chosen. The most common are the infrared bands around 810 nm and 1050 nm. However, the frequency and irradiation time were varied at the experimental level in order to better target neural activity in specific brain regions and obtain maximum benefit. The energy generated by the absorption of photons by cellular mitochondria regulates the microenvironment of the organism, thus providing the ability to treat diseases or disease conditions. In addition, the photothermal nanomaterials trigger a photothermal conversion effect that confers photobiomodulation with precise and effective properties.
2.When photobiomodulation is applied to organs/structures (e.g., thighs or abdomen) away from the area of injury (e.g., the brain), it may activate circulating cells, such as stem or immune cells, or even free-floating mitochondria in the plasma, which congregate at the site of injury, improving cell function and/or survival. Clinical study:
1.Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a common, chronic, and costly neurodegenerative disorder for which there are no effective therapies to prevent physical damage to the brain and its resulting cognitive impairment. The current pathophysiological mechanism of Alzheimer's disease is the accumulation of neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) formed by hyperphosphorylated Tau protein and amyloid β protein (Aβ) plaques. Antibody therapies, vaccines, and other methods to reduce Tau and/or amyloid have not been successful, despite numerous attempts by pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
2.A recent report on animal models for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology using near-infrared light photomodulation included a K369I tau transgenic model genetically engineered to form neuroprogenitor fibrillary tangles (K3) and an APPs/PSEN1dE9 transgenic model that forms amyloid plaques (APP/PS1). The mice were exposed to near-infrared light (600-1000 nm) 20 times over a four-week period.
3.And the results showed that near-infrared light exposure (600-1000 nm) reduced the size and number of β-amyloid plaques in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus.
4.We now report a small, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial (n=11) enrolling 6 subjects, 3 controls, and 2 dropouts to evaluate the effects of 28 consecutive 6-minute sessions of transcranial near-infrared (NIR) stimulation using 1050-1080 nm light-emitting diodes. Subjects received an independent dementia diagnosis at a behavioral health clinic.
5.Results showed improvements in executive functioning (including drawing clocks, immediate recall, practical memory, visual attention, and task switching) (Trials A and B) and a trend toward improvement in EEG amplitude and connectivity metrics. Neuroplasticity was also reported with near-infrared light stimulation and mitochondrial enhancement.
